Sketched this at the Quadrangle Club
at the University of Chicago, where they
host improvisational jazz every 1st Friday
evening of the month.
So many years I waited to see this great
singer and, alas, it was a shame that I waited…
sadly, the Sparrow is in poor health…hobbled
onto stage and indeed hobbled off stage in
mid-song…we thought he would collapse…
so sad, so sad.
…went to hear Melvin Taylor, blues
guitarist and very talented…place didn’t
have much to offer in terms of cocktails
which I prefer, so I imbibed this stiff creation.
My daughter’s boyfriend, Brandon and
drumster (known collectively as King Apathy)
played at Quenchers (Fullerton & Western)…
I hadn’t been to that place since before my
daughter was born! Back in ’84, Kootch, Larry
and I were doing production work in Old Town and
we became acquainted with “Old Peculiar” at Quenchers
This friend of Jim Post’s met him at the
Java Jive coffee house in Hannibal, MO.
Nice fellow playing the first dobro-style
mandolin I’ve ever met!
